Mary Land & Marathons

Saturday, March 3rd & Sunday, March 4th-Mary Land came to visit us in LA! We ridiculously forgot to take pictures but we had a great time with her here. Maurissa picked her up at the airport and then dropped her off at our place. We then played a nice game of Settlers of Catan and Puerto Rico. Daryl, surprisingly, lost. I think Mary took advantage of the fact that we haven't been playing games for a long time. (Oh, how we miss Game Night.) But then he won the second game and it was like we were back in SF.

Sunday was the LA marathon and while we were scrambling to find Maurissa running (we missed her by probably a half hour) we spent a good deal of time in traffic in some not very nice neighborhoods starving because we hadn't eaten yet. After a few hours of this, we cheered a few groups of runners/walkers on and then left to eat at The Griddle. They have the largest pancakes ever. I recommend this place to everyone who visits LA. I, of course, got eggs and bacon. And boy, is their bacon worth it. And then we played more games. We introduced Mary to a game called Shear Panic whose cute ceramic figurine pieces belie a game of complete dastardliness and screw-you moves. Fun.

It was a great weekend and Sheer Panic and the Griddle were just but tips of the Iceburg. There was also the Thai restaurant with the Elvis Impersonator. The cheering of unknown marathoners was in South Central LA (parking is so easy there). Five board games, Thai, Vietnamese and the Griddle Cafe in less than 24 hours! I'll be back.
